You might feel like you’ve spent most of 2020 in your bedroom, but that hasn’t stopped the YouTubers and influencers of this world going in on the drama. Because hey, isn’t creating drama from their bedrooms kind of what they do best? Here’s a look back at some of biggest moments of the year.
When Jeffree Star and Nate Schwandt broke up
Throwback to January 2020 when the YouTuber shocked the world and announced the couple’s split after five years together with a video titled “We Broke Up”. In the video, Jeffree insisted there was no drama behind the split ( “this isn’t like an internet fight, this isn’t tea”) but fans later speculated he was throwing shade at Nate with some of his palettes.

When Shane Dawson deleted his YouTube account
The same month (July 2020), racist and offensive footage of Shane’s early YouTube videos emerged. He apologised in his ‘Taking Accountability’ video, before deleting his YouTube channels. “I have done a lot of things in my past that I hate, that I wish I could make go away, that I tried to make go away by deleting videos, or un-tagging my Instagram, literally doing whatever I can to pretend those things didn’t happen,” he stated.
He is still on Instagram and Twitter, but his last tweet read, “I deleted everything. I’m done. For those who wanted me to “address it” I did. I’m sure u can find it reposted somewhere. But I don’t want this energy in my life or on my timeline. I’m too sensitive for this shit and I’m done. [sic]”

When Jake Paul’s house was raided by the FBI
In August, YouTuber Jake Paul’s home was raided by the FBI and firearms were allegedly removed from the property, according to BBC. Sources added that the raid came about due to Paul’s arrest in June this year (he has been charged with looting during a Black Lives Matter protest in Arizona).
Paul, who was not home at the time of the raid, has denied any wrongdoing with regards to his arrest – tweeting, “To be absolutely clear, neither I nor anyone in our group was engaged in any looting or vandalism. For context, we spent the day doing our part to peacefully protest one of the most horrific injustices our country has ever seen.”
An FBI representative said in a statement, reported by the BBC: “The FBI is executing a federal search warrant at a residence in Calabasas in connection with an ongoing investigation. The affidavit in support of the search warrant has been sealed by a judge and I am, therefore, prohibited from commenting as to the nature of the investigation. No arrests are planned.”
When Nikki Tutorials came for Ellen DeGeneres
Amid the Ellen DeGeneres allegations of the summer, Nikki Tutorials revealed her own experience with the presenter – and let’s just say it wasn’t hugely complimentary.
During a Dutch interview on De Wereld Draait Door in March, the 25-year-old said her experience with Ellen wasn’t as pleasant as it seemed.
Sebastian Williams who runs a drama channel on YouTube was the one who spotted the interview from February and translated it to English. We also have checked the translation with a native Dutch speaker.
In the clip, Nikkie is asked by host Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, “What was it like at Ellen DeGeneres?” In response, Nikkie says, “Well… let’s just say there is a huge difference between this show and Ellen Degeneres and I’m saying that in favour of this show. It’s nice that you say ‘hi’ before the show… she didn’t. Ellen is just such a different world.”
She added, “It was a huge honour to be on that stage with Ellen, but it wasn’t as nice as I thought.” Ouch. Ellen is yet to respond to the claims.
When James Charles and Drag Race’s Trinity ‘The Tuck’ Taylor feuded on Twitter
In March, an argument between James Charles and Drag Race alumni Trinity ‘The Tuck’ Taylor on Twitter. It all started when YouTuber tweeted, “Tested positive for having a fat ass.”
Trinity replied, “Fat ass? Girl who diagnosed you? Hellen Keller?”, making reference to the first blind and deaf person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree, author and activist Hellen Keller.

James Charles later hit back, continuing the back and forth. He wrote, “Damn, she must’ve mistook the lumpy silicone in your face as Braille instead of reading my actual test results / My mistake…. speaking of mistakes, how’s your crown?”
The feud continued when Trinity accused James of asking him for free tuck pants, to which James fired back with receipts that he’d offered to pay on PayPal. The whole thing was quite confusing tbh.
When Jeffree Star accused his boyfriend of stealing from him
In August 2020, Jeffree went public with new boyfriend Andre Marhold, a basketball player. Jeffree shut down all rumours that the romance was fake at the time, and the pair went on all sorts of romantic date nights and weekends away since.
Only things took a dark turn when Jeffree accused Andre of stealing from him in a now deleted Instagram comment in October. Hip magazine screengrabbed the message, which read, “Hey! Since you can’t answer the phone right now, can you give me all the stuff back that you stole from my house??”
It’s worth noting we don’t know whether the accusations can be verified, what Jeffree alleges Andre stole, or why the comment was later deleted. Andre never commented on the allegations.
That’s enough drama to last us a lifetime tbh.
